Injecting Fun into the classroom

Philip Warwick

I’ve been involved in ELT since 1988. During this time, I’ve worked in many different roles and over 30 countries, mainly in a teacher training or academic management position. I hold the Trinity Licentiate Diploma TESOL and for the last twenty years have worked as a freelance teacher trainer . I’ve also taught on CELTA , Business English courses and EU funded teacher training sessions. Since 2007 I’ve been Academic Coordinator for Embassy Summer, developing and delivering intensive language courses for teenagers and young learners across a multitude of centres in the UK, training teachers and ensuring the academic quality across all 13+ centres. Since 2020 I have been working at a Czech Secondary school teaching conversational and exam English classes.

In a world that seems to get crazier every minute, students’ lives seem to becoming more stressful and uncertain. Education will always offer an escape, provided that the door is open and the light is attractive enough to enter. Although edutainment is a bit of a dirty word, there comes a point where the benefits of humour, creativity and surprise, in helping students learn and enjoy their studies, can make a difference. This session will look at how we can teach the content without the boredom.

Target group: teens, young adults
